I <3 Bobby Long!!

Bobby Long, September 2009: Club Passim, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA

I had the supremely awesome privilege of seeing Bobby Long in concert last night. I was both nervous and excited to see the show. I had this feeling that seeing his show would make me feel a little closer to Rob. And it did. However, I did not expect to be so smitten by the end of it. And I definitely am smitten.

First of all, Bobby is like a normal guy. The way he dresses, the way he talks, his demeanor- all totally normal. Second, he is MUCH taller than I expected him to be. I had on 3 inch platform wedges and he was still a good 3 or 4 inches taller than me. Tall guys are the best.

I like his music, his sound. I've only been listening to him for the recently, but I like what I've heard. He sounds even better in person. How is that possible?!?! That hardly ever fucking happens!! I was blown away by his talent and passion. I think he played with his eyes closed most of the time, but it wasn't a bother. It almost seemed to make the show more intimate. Left to Lie was my favorite of what I've heard. Dead and Done is now my favorite song after last night. I had not heard that one before. I loved it!! Who knew the harmonica could sound so appealing?

He is one witty fellow. He got embarrassed singing a song about Canada. Though, I am not sure why. Something about Karma. So much so that he had to stop singing and laugh. He tried to hide behind the pole on the stage. He also turned his back to try and regain his composure. He said he walked around Harvard Square for like an hour and a half and he asked the audience what "wicked pissed" meant. He talked about liking when there is good beer (he drank the whole show-nice!) and how Corona is like piss and you can find it on a busstop in the middle of the night. He asked us about baseball and joked around that our team was called The Cubs (I'll forgive you this time Bobby). I think he knew what he was doing because he even mentioned the Yankees (groan!). I mean 100 feet away people are outside watching a Red Sox game by Cardullo's. I know he saw that if he was walking around. He asked us permission to swear and then he said "fuck" in his British accent *SWOON*. There were so many more funny moments, but THE BEST moment was the tip joke: earlier the sound guy in the back had to come up and check the monitor because the guitar was not coming out. During the next song Bobby asked the sound guy if they could hear it. The sound guy said "just a bit." So Bobby proceeds to say "Just the tip? Just the tip? Have you ever played that game? Don't ever play that game." to a room FULL of women. The sexual undertones were rampant and I swear if I could blush, I would have. My cheeks were so warm. It was brilliant!!

I already mentioned that Bobby is pretty damn tall. Now I want to mention his hair. His hair is unreal! Like disheveled and sexy unreal. And he really pulls of the scruffy beard look well. But that hair. OMG!! I went with a friend and she said every time he ran his fingers through his hair, her chair got a little more wet. I almost died laughing in the middle of the show when she told me that. He spoke a lot and I love his accent & his English phrases. "Someone's been putting me on" he said at one point. He walked passed me two times and I had to resist the urge to touch him, bump into him, grab him, etc. And he smells good. Who would have thought that standing up there sweating (because he was) that he'd smell good when he was done? When he walked passed me I saw his eyes and they are almost turquoise like the Pacific Ocean or something. Dreamy!!

I think he's camera shy. At the end of the show he was signing stuff and he kept turning his back to the crowd like hiding his face, but I think it was a natural movement. It didn't seem like he was doing it on purpose. He is really a friendlyu guy. Very easygoing from what I can tell.

So we got 2 CD's and a couple of posters. Then we stood in line for Bobby to sign the posters. We were close to the front, so we didn't have to wait very long. So It's my turn and my camera dies- fuck! (we could only take pics while he was signing stuff- no "mug shots" as his manager called it. Meaning no posing pics). So I walk up to him and I'm actually kind of nervous. He asks me what my name is and I tell him it's complicated so I will spell it for him. He sits down on the stage and poses his sharpie waiting for me to spell it. I spell it for him while he follows my direction. Then he sits back and looks at it, I can see he is trying to pronounce it so I do it for him. Then, he repeats after me- "Naitasia." He said my name in that glorious, fuckhot accent. I swear I have never heard anything so beautiful in my life. I wish I could've recordes it. THEN-OMG-THEN he speaks some more: "I've never heard that before. It's pretty. I like it." I almost died. And that's what he wrote on my poster "I like your name." It was so fucking awesome. I cannot even begin to tell you. I think my ears were ringing and birds were chirping because I was so out of it I almost don't remember being there. Then he smiled at me and I had to step to the side before I passed out.

The two pics below are one of him singing (digital camera), Bobby signing Gloria's poster (iPhone) & my signed poster- "Naitasia. I Like Your Name! Bobby Long."

*edit: check out the last pic. It's a tweet from Bobby about the Boston show.*

Note To Self: Get a new camera.
